Leadership Lessons
Be the Leader
I am in my role because I have done the hard work, and others believe in me. Take that belief, reduce any negative self-talk about doubt or imposter syndrome. Stay true to your values, trust your instincts, and do the work. A mentor taught me that, in the absence of guidance, you must be the leader with genuine curiosity and be prepared to make decisions.
Career Advice
Success Is Not About Your Title
I believed that once I got there, I would be a successful leader. Turns out it isn’t about the title or level, that’s not what makes you successful. It is more about what you are doing along the way, are you making a positive impact, are you learning and developing yourself and others?
Speak Up
Early in my career as a female leader in a male-dominated industry, a mentor told me to use my voice, speak up, and share my insights. Don’t wait to be asked, that may not happen, and my perspectives need to be added to the conversation. I still remember that in meetings I have with my peers, internal teams, and global partnerships. A little voice in my head reminds me to use my voice to speak up.
Energy Booster
Recharge Yourself
Taking short, intentional stretch breaks to go for a walk to look for something specific, like a heart-shaped cloud or a bluebird, to get the brain refocused, but also clear my mind. I’ve discovered that those moments of joyful movement help me recharge and refocus on my tasks. And if you do it with a friend or coworker, it adds a bit of fun to my day, reducing stress and increasing my overall motivation.
Make Someone’s Day
Start each day with a positive mindset. Do something small every day to make someone else’s day. It could be a smile, a thank-you, or a question about their family, hobby, or dog. Do something fun every day; it can be contagious.
