Portrait of Former First Lady Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama

former First Lady of the United States

Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Michelle Obama never imagined she would become the First Lady of the United States. As First Lady, she used her platform to inspire millions and redefine what leadership, advocacy, and representation can look like. A graduate of Princeton and Harvard Law School, she met Barack Obama early in her legal career; together they built a family grounded in values, raising daughters Malia and Sasha while navigating global public life.

As first Lady, she championed initiatives around education, military families, and healthier communities for kids, reaching audiences worldwide. Beyond the White House, she has become one of the most influential storytellers of her generation. Her memoir Becoming became a global phenomenon, selling over 17 million copies and remaining on bestseller lists for years, followed by instant bestselling books The Light We Carry and The Look.

Through Higher Ground, her media company, she has produced Academy Award-winning and Emmy-recognized projects, amplifying underrepresented voices and recently launching her popular podcast, IMO, with her brother, Craig Robinson. She also drives impact through initiatives like the Girls Opportunity Alliance and When We All Vote, empowering young people worldwide. At her core, Michelle Obama’s legacy is about expanding what’s possible—using her voice, story, and global influence to uplift others and shape a more inclusive future.
