America Ferrera is an award-winning actor, director, and producer known for roles in Ugly Betty, Real Women Have Curves, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Superstore, and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. For her performance as Gloria in Barbie, she earned Academy Award and Critics Choice Award nominations and received the SeeHer Award. For her breakthrough role in Ugly Betty, Ferrera won an Emmy®️, a Screen Actors Guild Award®️, a Golden Globe®️, and ALMA and Imagen Awards.
Ferrera appeared in Dumb Money, WeCrashed and Paul Greengrass’ 2025 feature The Lost Bus. She also executive produced, directed, and starred in Superstore. She executive produced and directed episodes of Netflix series Gentefied and is now set to make her feature directorial debut with an adaptation of Erika Sánchez’s New York Times bestselling novel, I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter, in development at MGM/Orion Pictures.
A longtime activist, Ferrera co-founded HARNESS, a community using art and storytelling to create a more equitable world, and helped launch Poderistas, a nonprofit that informs, affirms, and inspires Latinas. She is a founding investor in Angel City Football Club. Her first book, American Like Me, became a New York Times bestseller.
Ferrera founded her production company, Take Fountain, and is a graduate of the University of Southern California, where she studied International Relations while pursuing her film and television career.
